Things I Need From my Job
Any 2 of the following:
1. A comfortable work environment
2. The right blend of hand-picked distractions (movies, music)
3. Interesting, challenging, or at least measurable and urgent work
4. A sense that I am solving a problem, improving someone else’s work-life, or in some other way providing value.
What I have right now (at the day job):
1. Broken, cheap chairs at an awkward desk hight. Laptop that I hate. Sore neck.
2. In a noisy cube farm/phone center with limited web access and sales persons all around.
3. I’m mostly waiting for feedback on my last round of work, so there isn’t much to do.
4. When I do get stuff to do it will be “can we slide the text a little to the left on this automatically generated Excel worksheet”
5. Some of these systems are so broken that I dread coming to try and work with them.
6. A semi-regular paycheck, so thats a change. Still, time to get back to the freelance market and get some work.
